Auvillar Ceramic

Lovely small dish made of Auvillar faience.

Located in the Tarn-et-Garonne, Auvillar is famous for its faience of great fire mainly using cobalt blue, copper green, manganese violet, iron oxide yellow and red called “orangeat” of Thiviers.

In the eighteenth century, the many potters in Auvillar ambition to get closer to the production of Rouen or Genoa. Developing their technique and scenery, the city enjoyed great prosperity in the field of faience in the eighteenth and nineteenth century.

Today, the Abbey of Belleperche exhibits beautiful pieces of this earthenware like the one we propose here.
