A Chinese Cantonese porcelain dish presenting scenes of daily life in two reserves, bird decorations in blooming branches in two others and a central reserve hosting a bird.
The peonies present in the reserves decorated with birds embody love. Associated with the pheasant, peonies are a very popular decoration from the end of the 18th century in domestic ceramics.
The surrounds are decorated with butterflies and “cloud collar” (pattern lined with ruyi composant clouds).
The butterfly is the symbol of joy and is one of the emblems of conjugal fidelity.
This type of dish was offered as a wedding gift to wish prosperity to the couple.
This porcelain dish from Canton is visible in our store in Bordeaux, 64 rue Notre-Dame, 33000 Bordeaux.
