Beech wood armchairs, probably created before 1915. Attributed to Josef Hoffmann, architect and designer, leader of the Viennese Secession movement.
Our pair of armchairs designed by Josef Hoffmann is today quite rare on the art market. It bears witness to the research and influences of this designer who marked modernism in the twentieth century, questioning the lifestyle of his contemporaries and their way of appropriating their era, made up of technological and societal innovations and influences as much historical as foreign. Skilfully mixing all these parameters and seeking solutions in a wide range of crafts, Hoffmann helped establish a new artistic era whose codes did not meet the demands of political power but the needs of society.
